Bicycle Day: The Birthday of LSD

Apr 22, 2016

ABC News has published a story titled "Bicycle Day marks LSD discovery by Albert Hoffman as psychotherapy research continues". Bicycle day refers to April 19th, 1943 when Albert Hoffman consumed LSD for the first time, and rode his bicycle home through a village in Switzerland. The article gives an overview of the recent re-interest in potential therapeutic uses of LSD. Dr Stephen Bright from Curtin University describes a recent brain imaging study that showed LSD caused significant changes in brain blood flow, electrical activity and network communication patterns - a unique mode of action that has potential application in psychological research.  Dr Bright cautions against the recreational use of LSD in uncontrolled environments.
