Dovetail Minibite: A Timeline Approach to Mapping Family Relationships
May 26, 2017
Last year we released our "Working with Families and Significant Others" guide to help workers include a family responsive practice approach to alcohol and other drug work with young people. Based on this guide, we've made a short video featuring Associate Professor Phil Crane, which shows workers how to use a time line approach to mapping young people's past, present and future family and significant other relationships. In the time line approach the young person is represented by the point in the middle of a circle and indicates their proximity to family members within the circle at different points in time. This tool may assist a young person to appreciate family as dynamic and evolving and gives space for the discussion of their hopes for future relationships.
