Apr 26, 2019
Mission Australia have published a report titled “Out of the shadows. Domestic and family violence: A leading cause of homelessness in Australia.” The report draws on a range of data sources, including Census, the AIHW Specialist Homelessness Services Collection data, amongst others. Of the 43, 200 young people who were in contact with a specialist housing service in 2017-18, almost two in five (37%) reported domestic and family violence. The number of clients seeking assistance from specialist housing services and reporting domestic and family violence has risen on average 9% each year since 2013-14. The report also includes a number of recommendations to improve service responses for both homelessness and domestic and family violence.
