The Australian Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) survey tracks the prevalence of HIV and Hepatitis C in people who inject drugs in Australia. The survey involves a paper based survey as well as a blood sample. In 2018, 52 NSPs participated, and 2742 people completed the survey. Hepatitis C antibody prevalence has declined from 54% of NSP participants in 2014 down to 45% in 2018. The survey also noted significant increases in the uptake of treatment for hepatitis C with 13% of eligible people reporting lifetime treatment history in 2014, increasing to 55% in 2018.
