Aug 9, 2019
The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) have recently released a bulletin titled “Mandatory alcohol and drug treatment: What is it and does it work?”. In recent times there has been increasing public debate regarding mandatory treatment, however these debates haven’t always been clear on what mandatory treatment is and who may benefit.
The bulletin aims to clarify some facts in relation to mandatory treatment by providing an overview of the various models of mandatory treatment currently used in Australia and internationally. The article provides information on the evidence base of these models and assesses the effectiveness in addressing alcohol and other drug problems.
