Save the date: Australian Winter School 25-26th July 2019
Feb 8, 2019
The biennial Australian Winter School conference is one of the largest events in the Queensland AOD sector calendar. The theme for the 2019 event is “Drugs: Pleasure, Medicine or Poison?” - exploring the grey areas of substance use beyond the usual polarised debate where substances are seen as either entirely good or entirely bad. The international keynote speaker will be Beau Kilmer, co-director of the RAND Drug Policy Research Centre in the United States. Beau has written extensively on the outcomes of drug law reform including cannabis legalisation, and supervised drug consumption facilities.
Beau Kilmer will be joined by Melbourne-based journalist and author Jenny Valentish, whose 2017 book "Woman of Substances: A Journey into Addiction and Treatment" looked at some of the driving factors behind alcohol and drug use, with a focus on women.
The call for abstracts has opened, with presentations on the over-arching streams of prevention, harm reduction and treatment. Abstracts are due by 5pm Friday 1 March.
