How parents and teachers can identify and help young people self-medicating trauma with drugs and alcohol

The Conversation have recently published an article by researchers at ‘The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use’ at the University of Sydney titled “How parents and teachers can identify and help young people self-medicating trauma with drugs and alcohol.” The article contains a list of some of the signs of trauma that could indicate a young person requires support. Young people who have experienced trauma have also been found to have higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation and other risky behaviours, including problematic substance use.
