What’s it like to grow up with a parent who has a mental illness?

Radio National has recently broadcast a podcast series titled “Get Up Mum: A radio documentary about caring for a parent with a mental illness.” The podcast tells the true story of Justin Heazlewood’s experience of growing up with a mother with schizophrenia. Justin had a hobby of recording the voices of his family and friends on cassette tape. The podcast uses these recordings, and Justin’s memoir to document one year in his life, as a 12-year old growing up in Tasmania.
