Can psychedelics treat mental illness?

A recent article by The Conversation titled “Psychedelics to Treat Mental Illness? Australian Researchers are Giving it a Go” explores new scientific research emerging regarding the use of psychedelic substances to treat mental illness. The article highlights the growing number of Australians experiencing mental health concerns and discusses the limitations of some current treatments.

Psychedelics such as MDMA, “magic mushrooms” (psilocybin) and LSD have been emerging as possible options for treating mental illness, and Australia’s first trial is commencing this year with research around psilocybin-assisted therapy for anxiety and depression among terminally ill patients.
