National Opioid Pharmacotherapy Statistics Annual Data collection (NOPSAD) 2018

In April 2019 the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare released a report entitled, “National Opioid Pharmacotherapy Statistics Annual Data collection (NOPSAD) 2018”. The report looks at clients who received pharmacotherapy treatment on one day in 2018. Just over 50,000 clients received treatment for their opioid dependence at 2,852 dosing locations across Australia. There were 3,168 authorised prescribers of opioid pharmacotherapy drugs.
The report highlights the following:
- 2 in 3 opioid pharmacotherapy clients were male
- 50,597 clients received opioid pharmacotherapy treatment nationally
- 89% of opioid pharmacotherapy dosing points were pharmacies
- The median age of opioid pharmacotherapy clients was 43
