New psychoactive substances in Australia: Who uses them, how prevalent are they, and where are they sourced?
Nov 8, 2019
The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) published an article by Dr Rachel Sutherland in their Connections newsletter back in June. The article provides an in-depth overview of new psychoactive substances (NPS) in Australia: what they are, who uses them and which specific NPS are being consumed. It describes the major types of NPS, as well as the prevalence of different substances. The article describes NPS users in Australia to be generally younger than users of other substance types, generally more educated, but broadly similar in socio-economic status to other groups of substance users.
