
Family Matters report reveals increasing crisis for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

This week the Family Matters Report 2019 was published. The Family Matters Report explores the complex issue over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care through outlining current data and examining solutions for the future.
The report shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children now represent 37.3% of the total out-of-home care population, despite being only 5.5% of the total population of children. The report also shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are now 10.2 times more likely to be removed from their families than non-Indigenous children.
