The Australian Institute of Family Services released a report in August 2019 by Sara McLean titled, “Therapeutic residential care in Australia: A description of current service characteristic”.
Therapeutic residential care is somewhat of a recent development in the out-of-care home care landscape for young people. Therapeutic residential care is characterised by being informed by trauma and its impact on the development and behaviour of young people. The report outlines an overview of key characteristics of what is common across therapeutic residential care services as well as key recommendations which could be useful to implement across the board.
