Human Rights Day: 10th of December 2020

Dec 4, 2020

Human Rights Day is on 10th of December, which is the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that was adopted in 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly. The 2020 theme for Human Rights Day is “Recover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights”, focusing on COVID-19,  and the importance of ensuring human rights are central to recovering from the global pandemic.

It is also a great time to reflect on the Queensland Human Rights Act, which was passed into law in early 2020. The Queensland Human Rights Act is designed to protect and promote human rights, listing 23 fundamental human rights in law. The Act also aims to help build a culture in the Queensland public sector that respects and promotes human rights and helps to promote a dialogue about the nature, meaning and scope of human rights.

So take the time to reflect on human rights, and the work you can do on this day.
