Bushfires response: Resources for educators
Feb 7, 2020
In the wake of the recent bushfire crisis in Australia, “Be You” (a professional development service for schools around mental health) have created a resource for educators in areas that have experienced bushfires. Titled “Bushfires response: Resources for educators,” the aim of the resource is to assist schools in bushfire affected communities to manage the mental health impacts on young people.
Although the pack was created with educators in mind, it is noted to be suitable for parents and other community members. The resource aims to support young people both directly and indirectly affected by the crisis and is divided into three sections: Immediate, short term and long term. Each of the sections provides information, resources and outlines how best to manage distress.
Many of the resources included address the impacts of trauma from natural disasters generally, and so are relevant for any school community dealing with things like floods, cyclones or bushfires.
