The Australian Government Department of Health has released a “National Framework for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Treatment 2019 - 29.” The framework provides a set of agreed principles for effective AOD treatment, monitoring and evaluation in Australia. The framework aims to define what effective AOD treatment looks like. It includes a description of a range of settings where AOD treatment might occur, such as home-based settings, telephone or online treatment, or residential settings. The key principles for effective AOD treatment are described. These include: person centered, equitable and accessible, evidence-informed, culturally responsive, holistic and coordinated, non-judgemental, non-stigmatising and non-discriminatory.
