Upcoming Webinar: Preventure - school based AOD program, Monday 15th of June, 12pm
Jun 12, 2020
Dr. Erin Kelly from The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use will be presenting a webinar titled “Preventure: A brief personality-targeted intervention to improve wellbeing and reduce behavioural problems in secondary school students” on Monday 15th of June, at 12pm.
The program targets students in high school (grades 7-8 and 9-10), identifying four common personality traits that are potential risk factors for substance misuse and emotional problems. These include negative thinking, anxiety sensitivity, sensation-seeking and impulsivity. Students are taught how these traits can lead to certain emotional and behavioural reactions and are provided with appropriate coping skills, specific to each trait. The “Preventure” program has been evaluated in North America, Europe and Australia and has been found to be effective in reducing substance use and other emotional and behavioural problems.
