Young Willing and Able: Mission Australia report on young people with a disability

Jun 26, 2020

Mission Australia recently released a report titled “Young, willing and able: Youth survey disability report 2019”. The report uses data taken from the annual Mission Australia Youth Survey, which sampled 25, 126 young people from across Australia to compare the experiences of those with and without a disability. The sample included 1623 young people living with a disability, aged from 15 to 19 years old. The study highlights a number of challenges faced by young people with a disability. This includes 43% of young people with a disability reporting experiencing bullying in the previous twelve months, compared with 19% of students who don’t have a disability. Young people with a disability were more likely to report barriers to achieving their post-school goals with 28% reporting mental health impacting their post-school goals, compared with only 16% of young people without a disability.
