New resources: School-based Drug and Alcohol Prevention
Nov 13, 2020
Positive Choices is a website funded by the Australian Government to provide schools with up to date and accurate information on school based alcohol and drug education and programs. They have recently released a 3 part series of fact sheets designed to support teachers navigating the area of alcohol and drug education.
The first fact sheet, “Why is alcohol and drug prevention important?”, discusses the concept of prevention and how programs proven to delay the onset of alcohol and drug use can reduce the risk of future dependence and increase positive outcomes for young people. The second fact sheet, “What works”, provides an overview of the evidence for effective school based alcohol and drug education programs. The last fact sheet provides a guide for choosing programs and resources by stepping readers through determining suitability and efficacy of programs and resources.
Part 1: Why is drug and alcohol prevention important?
Part 2: Drug prevention: what works?
Part 3: Choosing school-based prevention resources
These fact sheets align with the information provided by Dovetail in our “Alcohol and Other Drugs in Schools” guide, so don’t forget to also check it out if you haven’t already!
