Shifts in alcohol consumption during the covid-19 pandemic: early indicators from Australia
Oct 23, 2020
A research article has been published in the journal “Addiction” titled “Shifts in alcohol consumption during the covid-19 pandemic: early indicators from Australia.” The research involved a convenience sample of adults recruited via Facebook ad Instagram advertisements, between mid-April 2020 and mid-May 2020. A total sample 1684 people were included in the study, which found a large downward shift in alcohol consumption amongst young people aged 18-25. This might be related to the lack of access to licensed premises where many younger people consume alcohol. Older drinkers aged 36 - 50 appeared to increase their drinking during the pandemic.
