Jul 16, 2021
The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) has published the latest “National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program Report 13”. Wastewater is routinely analysed for the presence of a range of substances. About 56% of the Australian population are covered by wastewater analysis, so it can be a good indicator of changes in the levels of substance use in the community. This report found that there were slight increases in the levels of methamphetamine detected in Queensland wastewater, however levels remain much lower than pre-pandemic levels. Similarly, levels of MDMA detected in Queensland wastewater remain significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels.
