Performance and image enhancing drugs in Australia

ABC News recently published an article titled “Tom’s been using performance-enhancing drugs for eight years, and like many others, he feels trapped in a cycle.”  The article describes one person’s experience of using performance and image enhancing drugs (PIEDs) due to body image concerns, and finding it difficult to stop. A range of factors can lead to a person using these types of substances, and this story focuses on body image concerns. There’s been evidence of increasing use of PIEDs in the community, with data from needle and syringe programs showing a steady increase in people reporting the use of these substances.
