A Welcome Home: Youth Homeless and Mental Health
Mar 26, 2021
Youth mental health service Orygen has released a policy paper titled, “A Welcome Home: Youth Homeless and Mental Health”. The report looks at the links between mental health concerns and youth homelessness, and goes on to provide recommendations for change.
It is estimated that up to 35% of young people who are homeless had mental health concerns that contributed to their homelessness. Some of the opportunities to improve our response to these young people includes improved care coordination and outreach, increasing access to supported accommodation services, along with broader structural reforms like increasing available housing stock.
