Webinar: “Trends in cocaine and methamphetamine use, markets and harms in Australia”

Mar 5, 2021

The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) recently recorded a webinar titled “Trends in cocaine and methamphetamine use, markets and harms in Australia” delivered by Dr Amy Peacock, Senior Research Fellow at NDARC. Dr Peacock explains in the presentation how triangulating multiple data sources can give us a clearer picture of trends in substance use. For example, a number of data sources all point towardings increased use of cocaine in the community. There is evidence of increased availability of cocaine, along with indicators of increases in general population levels of use. There also appears to be increases in harm related to cocaine use, with increases in both cocaine induced deaths and cocaine related deaths. By triangulating these multiple data sources, we can get a better picture of the changes in substance use patterns across the community.
