Webinar Recording: The increasing prevalence and harms of new synthetic drugs in the community

May 28, 2021

The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) recently aired a very interesting webinar titled “The increasing prevalence and harms of new synthetic drugs in the community” Despite a blanket ban on these substances in Queensland, we still see these substances playing a role in drug related harms including deaths.

Presented by Toxicologist and Pharmacologist, Associate Professor Dimitri Gerostamoulos, the presentation details the range of NPS identified in clinical and postmortem forensic settings. The harm-related outcomes are discussed, with many of these outcomes occurring in the context of people taking NSPs unknowingly, as a result of traditional substances being adulterated.
