How do alcohol companies target young people online?

The Medical Journal of Australia’s “Insight Plus” website has recently published article titled “Tracking how alcohol companies target young people online.” The article describes how alcohol companies utilise digital and social media platforms to advertise their products. Targeting advertising is becoming more advanced - including targeting advertisements at times when people are more likely to drink, such as the weekends or holiday period. Given that much of this advertising is highly targeted to particular demographics or locations, it can be difficult for regulators to monitor compliance with existing (albeit modest) alcohol advertising restrictions.
