Child Death Review Board 2020-21 Annual report released

Dec 16, 2022

The 2020-21 Child Death Review Board report has been published. The Child Death Review board conducts system reviews after the death of a child known to the child protection system, and makes recommendations to improve the system and respond to gaps in child death prevention mechanisms. This year's report had a particular focus on young people with complex needs, including alcohol and drug concerns and histories of trauma. One of the recommendations made in the report is the development of specialised accommodation services for children to address the underlying causes of high-risk behaviours that pose a danger to themselves or others. The report includes case studies that illustrate the challenges of responding to young people with complex behaviours, with often multiple agencies involved, but each struggling to get traction.
