Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD): An update on policy and practice in Australia

Feb 25, 2022

Child and Family Community Australia, an information hub as part of the Australian Institute of Family Studies, recently published a paper, “Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD): An update on policy and practice in Australia”. It outlines developments for the prevention of FASD, provides an overview of the key issues for child, youth and family practitioners, and describes the latest key policy and practice initiatives.

The paper recognises the significant improvement in our understanding and diagnosis of FASD, and some of the progress made by the National FAS Strategic Action Plan 2018-2028. The paper includes an overview of the principles of effective practice when working with children with FASD, information on how to help families seeking a diagnosis, as well as links to other credible sources of information.
