Re-thinking Heroin
Feb 4, 2022
Volteface is a UK-based independent research and advocacy organisation. They recently posted a personal opinion piece on their website written by a person who formerly used heroin, titled “Rethinking Heroin”. This moving and exceptionally well written personal story details the author's life and their on-off use of heroin to deal with multiple traumas they otherwise were not able to cope with. The author hopes to change the narrative we so often hear that classifies all drug users as out of control and all drug use as bad, by instead recognising that drug use can be both helpful or hurtful, depending on the context. The author shares that like himself, many people use in a highly purposeful and functional way that makes sense if understood in context.
