What do young people think of youth AOD services?
Jun 3, 2022
We recently came across a research article we thought was worth sharing. The article - titled “A qualitative study exploring how young people perceive and experience substance use services in British Columbia, Canada.” The article describes a participatory action research project that involved recruiting a group of young people aged under 30 to run focus groups that looked at experiences of the youth AOD treatment system. The authors found that a disease-focused AOD treatment system was unsuitable for many of the young people. Instead, a more integrated youth-centred approach that addressed a broad range of concerns linked to substance use was more likely to be successful at engaging and retaining young people in treatment.
