Jun 3, 2022
A research report has been published in Drug and Alcohol Review titled “Barriers to help-seeking among music festival attendees in New South Wales, Australia.” The report describes a research project that involved interviews with 1229 people who attended music festivals in New South Wales in 2019-20. Just over four in five people (83.2%) reported at least one barrier to seeking help from medical services at a music festival, with the vast majority of these reporting fear of getting in trouble with police (32.7%) being the most commonly identified barrier. This report highlights the unintended consequences of heavy policing approaches at music festivals, which can lead to delays in help seeking.
