Webinar: Finding pleasure in risky combinations of sex and drugs: crystal metahmphetamine use among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Australia - Friday 24th of June, 12pm

May 20, 2022

Cracks in the Ice are hosting a webinar titled “Finding pleasure in risky combinations of sex and drugs: crystal metahmphetamine use among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Australia” on Friday 24th of June at 12pm. Drawing on data collected for the “Crystal, Pleasures and Sex between Men” project, this webinar will explore the complex relationship between sex and drugs, known colloquially as ‘chemsex’  or ‘party and play’. Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men have higher reported methamphetamine use then the broader Australian population with additional risks for those who combine crystal use with sex. This webinar will offer an alternative to risk- focused accounts and instead introduce key concepts, like ‘sex-based sociality’, ‘stigma ecologies’, and ‘counterpublic health’, to better understand these pleasures – and their practical translation in service engagement.
