Nov 25, 2022
The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) has published a “Drug Trends” bulletin titled “Trends in the availability and types of drugs sold on the internet via cryptomarkets, October 2021 - September 2022.” This bulletin is the latest update in a series of updates that have been tracking the evolution of encrypted online drug marketplaces, which have continued to proliferate over time. Over this recent monitoring period, 11 marketplaces closed and another 10 appeared. The average number of listings increased significantly across this timeframe, demonstrating the resilience of these marketplaces. Cannabis was the most commonly listed drug for sale, followed by cocaine, benzodiazepines and MDMA. The market share of opioids for sale increased across this monitoring period, now making up 6.5% of all listings.
