The rise of novel benzos in Australia
Oct 14, 2022
The Australian Drug Foundation recently released an article titled, “The rise of novel benzos in Australia”. Designer, synthetic, or street benzos (benzodiazepines) as they can be called, are increasingly available in Australia. Novel benzos pose a public health risk, similar to other illicit drugs, and include varying potency levels, contaminated products, fakes and counterfeits (particularly Xanax), and varying times the drug stays in your system increasing the risk of overdose. The article provides advice on ways people who use novel benzos can reduce harms including testing small amounts of the drug first, taking long breaks between use and seeking medical help to manage withdrawal.
