MHPN webinar: “Mental health and wellbeing in autistic youth and young adults during transitions”, 27th February, 2023 at 6:15pm Queensland Time
Feb 17, 2023
The transition from youth to young adulthood is often a difficult period, especially for those on the autism spectrum. Transitions such as moving from school to university, starting a new job, or entering a relationship can be overwhelming and bring up a range of mental health challenges. To help practitioners understand the issues and better support young people with autism during these transitional periods, a panel of experts including Professor Tony Attwood (Clinical Psychologist), Professor Julian Trollor (Neuropsychiatrist), Jasmine Deakin (Social Worker with lived experience) and Dr. Claire Pickett (General Practitioner with lived experience) will discuss strategies and tips for providing the best care for autistic individuals during these difficult times. Facilitated by Nicola Palfrey (Clinical Psychologist, ACT), the panel will discuss how to foster acceptance of the autistic identity, use language that does not perpetuate negative stereotypes or stigma and outline the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to assessment, treatment and support.
The webinar will be held on Monday 27th February at 6:15pm Queensland time.
