Jul 21, 2023

The National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse recently hosted a webinar titled "In Conversation: What Can We Learn from the Australian Child Maltreatment Study about the Prevalence and Nature of Child Sexual Abuse?" During this webinar, Professor Ben Mathews, the Lead Investigator on the Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS), shares insights on the high prevalence of this type of abuse and its strong link to mental health disorders and high-risk behaviours. Professor Mathews emphasises the urgent need for intensified prevention and treatment efforts concerning child sexual abuse.

After the presentation, a panel consisting of National Centre Board Members is introduced. They engage in a discussion about the importance of sustained generational change, led by survivors, and the pursuit of justice and healing. This panel includes Dr. Joe Tucci, Chair and CEO of the Australian Childhood Foundation, Dr. Cathy Kezelman AM, Deputy Chair and CEO of the Blue Knot Foundation, and Fiona Cornforth, Board Member and CEO of The Healing Foundation. The session is moderated by Dr. Leanne Beagley, CEO of the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse.
