Jun 2, 2023

The Royal Commissions into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability has recently published a research report titled “Care criminalisation of children with disability in child protection systems.” It has been long known that children in child protection systems face higher risk of becoming criminalised, however there have been few studies that have focused on children and young people with disability at the intersection of the child protection and youth justice system. The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of People with Disability commissioned this research to look at the pathways that lead children with disability from their contact with the child protection system, to entering the criminal justice system.
