Positive Choices recorded webinar: Understanding stigma - creating a safe supportive environment for Australian young people

Positive Choices has now made available a webinar entitled "Understanding Stigma - Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment for Australian Young People". Stigmatisation, which is often associated with mental health difficulties and alcohol and drug use disorders, can be extremely detrimental and lead to long-term issues such as bullying, discrimination, and a reluctance among young people to seek help.

In the webinar, evidence-based strategies are explored that can help reduce discrimination and stigma, such as increasing knowledge of the topic among the community, engaging with young people who have had lived experiences of mental health or substance use, and being aware of language that contains stigma. Additionally, activities that allow young people to connect with family, community, and culture are noted as helpful in combatting fear surrounding such issues.
