Responsible media reporting of alcohol and other drugs

Stigma around alcohol and other drug use can be a barrier to seeking treatment, and has broad impacts on people who use drugs and their families. Mindframe has previously developed guidelines for responsible media reporting of mental health concerns, and now they have released “Mindframe for Alcohol and Other Drugs: Guidelines for communicating about alcohol and other drugs.”  The guidelines were developed with input from the AOD sector and people who use alcohol and other drugs, and includes guidance on data and statistics, appropriate language, adding help-seeking information to media reports, and ways of communicating about someone who uses alcohol and other drugs.
