Slang terms are often highly contextualised and vary over time, across regions and within social and cultural networks. Slang terms can be misinterpreted or inadvertently misused by workers. Dovetail recommend that workers exercise caution when using this guide.
If you are unsure about a slang term, talk with the young people you work with and ask them to explain it to you. Alternatively, contact Dovetail for support and assistance.
Terms invented my the media for the purposes of sensationalist reporting have not been included in this guide. This includes terms such as "zombie drug" (flakka or a-PVP) or "hippy crack" (nitrous oxide). These terms are rarely (if ever) used by people who use substances.
